As a parent, you play a vital role in influencing your teen’s attitudes and behaviors. You serve as a role model on the use of alcohol, control the availability of alcohol in your home, and help nourish your teen’s ability to ask questions about what they watch, see and read concerning drinking behaviors.

Many parents are unaware of the pervasive overexposure to alcohol advertising and promotion that teens experience today. The Question the Message campaign’s goal is to empower teens so they are not fooled by the alcohol industry. In this section you will find facts about the alcohol industry, advertising and youth, plus resources to find out more.

Please remember you’re not alone. Talking with other parents of teens can be invaluable and many communities are offering fun events and activities for families interested in learning more together. Parents are involved with local teen centers, youth groups, schools and other organizations in addition to the 43 substance abuse prevention coalitions in communities across Vermont. Follow these links to find the coalition and events nearest you.

Here are some activities and facts that might help you talk to your teen about drinking and media awareness.
